I'm back... kind of.

Yes, I am a terrible person.  I abandoned my food blog for over a month.  To tell you the truth, it was feeling a little like homework and I was getting annoyed.  I think I will start posting again, maybe just a couple things per month.  The biggest problem I am facing is that after trying all these new recipes over the past year, I keep making them!  So I have nothing new to blog when I am just making the same thing all the time.

My focus has also changed for the moment.  I am now making a lot more recipes that are super cheap and easy.  Now, this doesn't mean gourmet food... and I am betting most food bloggers don't post this kind of stuff.  Too bad.  So if you are gonna get all nuts on me about opening several canned foods to make a recipe... you should probably leave now.  But if you are looking for some cheap easy recipes to add to your weekly routine, you may want to stick around because I have a couple saved up.

Thanks for coming back.... I plan on posting one recipe today and hoarding the rest for later.

Follow up to Best Lasagna

Ok so I made an extra lasagna to freeze. It was loaf pan sized and I got it out today. I wasn't sure how long to bake it but it turned out great. Sure it wasn't as good as it was fresh, but totally worth it! Much better than the Stouffers ones. When I made it, I left it uncooked (the noodles and meat were cooked) covered it in plastic wrap then in foil.

So, for a completely frozen loaf pan sized lasagna:

-Preheat oven to 350
-Remove plastic wrap, replace foil. Place lasagna on a cookie sheet
-Bake covered for 90 minutes. Remove foil, bake for 15 minutes.

Comments from the peanut gallery

Ok so I have just turned my commenting moderation on. I had it so that anyone could comment but I got a few weirdos finding me and leaving stupid comments. So now I have to approve all comments before they are posted. Just an FYI.

Plus.... I love comments! So leave me some. That way I know people are reading this darn thing

Happy Holidays!

Ok so I am a little late on wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year... but it is the thought that counts right? Well below are a few goodies I made for the parties I went to... I hope you like them all!!! Happy 2009.

Apology

Sorry for neglecting my blog! The wedding is getting very close now and I really haven't been cooking much... mostly just premade junk. A few of the entries below are pretty lame, but they are everyday meals that are easy and we enjoy them. Hopefully it will help you remember a few lost favorites. In three weeks the wedding and honeymoon will be over (booo!) and it will be back to the real world... and the kitchen.

My Cooking Blog

Here are some things you should know about me as a "chef":

1. I have "Shelly's Rules". I will throw these out at random. They are kinda like those beer commercials with the "Man Laws".

2. I don't really like to measure things. So if you see a recipe with "about" or "approximately"... you really don't have to be exact. A lot of times I use the "until it looks right" approach. Hopefully that won't frustrate you. I once heard that "Baking is a science, and cooking is an art". That basically means that you do have to measure correctly for baking, so I will try to be specific in that area.

3. I am wordy. I throw out lots of comments in my recipes, like preferred brands of products. I hope it helps someone.

4. A lot of my recipes aren't 100% homemade. I work full time, I don't have time to be Suzy Homemaker... so I like the semi-homemade approach.

5. I am really picky. You won't see a huge variety of recipes on here. Matt and I generally don't eat seafood, and I am not into a ton of red meat. But if you like starches and desserts, I'm your gal!
